YRP is a six-month training course for young people not in education or employment. We first delivered this project in 2010 in the Aston, Soho, Nechells and Ladywood areas of Birmingham. It was so successful we’ve done more since!
In 2010, we asked nine young people to act as mentors to twenty others. The plan was to focus on personal development. We also wanted to learn about self-employment and the skills needed to develop your carer and run your own business.
There was a lot of success. Three of our participants, who had degrees but couldn’t get a job, became self-employed businesspeople – and two more entered employment. Two further graduates started voluntary work, and another two began education and training.
This was all beyond our wildest dreams, so the YRP now runs regularly – drop us a line to get involved!
